Automated Cold Cutting of Access Aperture in Crude Oil Storage Tanks

Power Station in South England

We were recently tasked with cutting access apertures in several 1 million litre capacity crude oil storage tanks at power station in south of England. The tanks had been drained but still contained fluid approximately .5m deep.

We used our bespoke Automated Cutting Carriage to cut access apertures above the fluid level measuring 4m by 3m.

We were able to cut the 35mm thick solid steel tank walls at a rate of over 1m per hour in horizontal and vertical orientations.

The weight of the steel required that the aperture be cut into two separate pieces and removed piece by piece with a forklift truck.

Upon completion of the works the client was able to access and reclaim the remaining fuel, recycle, clean and repurpose the tank.
